ASSESSMENT OF GENERAL RATES FOR THE 2010/2011
Notice is hereby given in terms of Section 14 of the Local Government Municipal Property Rates Act No 6 of 2004, that by Resolution taken on the 31 May 2010 the council of Matatiele Local Municipality has resolved to dertermine the rates payable on all ratable property within the area of Matatiele Local Municipality for the financial year 01 July 2010 to 30 June 2011 as 1.669 cents in the rand on the market value of all property other than agricultural property and public service infrastructure and 0.487 cents in the rand for agricultural properties an public service infrastructure as stated in the valuation roll.
The following rebates and discounts have been approved as per the above Council resolution:
Residential properties - First R30 000 discount and 35% Rebate.
Commercial properties - 10% Rebate.
Agricultural properties - Apply for agricultural rebates as set out in policy.
Overall:
1. Rates will be payable monthly in ten (10) equal installments with the first installment payable on 30 August 2010 and the last installment payable on 31 May 2011.
2. Application for rates to be paid annually can be done at the Finance Office, 104 High Street, Matatiele.
3. A rebate at Council's discretion is applicable to all Pensioners meeting the Criteria as determined by Matatiele Council. Applications close 31 July 2010.
4. The date on which the determination of rates came into operation is 01 July 2010.
5. Any rates remaining unpaid for a period longer than 3 months will be subject to legal action, action to be instituted to recover the arrear amount.
6. Any rates that are not paid on the due date will be subject to interest at the rate of 1.8% per month or part thereof.
7. The date on which the notice was first displayed on the Municipal Notice Board was 07 July 2010.

Nakin, the Municipal Manager, hereby give Notice that in terms of Section 19(a) of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act 2000 (Act No. 32 of 2000) that the next Special Council Meeting of the Matatiele Local Municipality will be held on Friday, 30 July 2010 at 11h00 in the Matatiele Town Hall. In terms of Section 20 of the quoted Act, members of the public, media and interested parties may attend the meeting as observers.
